Course Description:  Stroke is the nation’s third-largest cause of death. An effective, time-dependent treatment for acute stroke necessitates the education of all healthcare providers, as well as the general public, about prompt treatment for stroke.

The Stroke Prehospital Care Online course is part of the American Heart Association’s eLearning program and is ideal for out-of-hospital medical professionals and emergency medical services personnel in acute medical practice.

A: Stroke Prehospital Care Online ideal for out-of-hospital medical professionals and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel in acute medical practice, but appropriate for any healthcare provider who wants to improve their knowledge of stroke treatment.

Q: What is the course format?
A: Through four interactive cases, course participants are presented with patients who have stroke-related complaints and are prompted to make prehospital management decisions. These cases must be successfully completed before a student is allowed to access the online test.

A: No. Completion of this course does not result in an AHA course completion card. However, a certificate of completion is available for the student to print at the end of the course.

Q: Is a skills session required?

A: No.

Q: Is there a score that must be achieved by students in order to successfully pass this course?

A: Yes. Within each of the four cases presented, students must score at least 80 percent.

Q: How long does this course take to complete?

A: Students generally require 1 to 2 hours to complete the course.

Q: Are there continuing education credits available for this course?

A: No. Continuing education (CE/CME) credits are not available for this course.

Q: Are there special computer requirements to take this course?
A: Students must have sound capability to complete the Stroke Prehospital Care Online Course. A student’s computer must be set up with a built-in or separate sound card along with either speakers or a headset. The stroke course consists of four modules that use audio heavily. Other browser requirements are located in the Browser Check section.

Q: Can a student log in and out of the course?
A: Yes. Students can log in and out as many times as they choose. To log out, just click the "Click here to log out" link located at the top of the page after login. When the student is ready to continue training, he/she can return to OnlineAHA.org and log in with his/her registered email and password.

Q: Can course material be accessed after the online portion is completed?
A: Students have 12 months from the day of activation to refer to the course material for review and knowledge updates.
