Course Description:  Stroke is a leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the United States. Each year, approximately 780,000 people experience a new or recurrent stroke. About600,000 of these are first attacks, and 180,000 are recurrent attacks. Healthcare providers, hospitals, and communities are rallying to develop systems to give stroke victims the best care possible. These specialists know that in the battle of stroke treatment, time is not on their side.

To help healthcare professionals work quickly to identify and manage stroke, theAmerican Heart Association developed Stroke Hospital-Based Care Online. Thiscourse, ideal for in-hospital healthcare professionals, provides high level information and training on the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of stroke, as well as on the complications of stroke.

A: The difference between Stroke Hospital-Based Care Online and Acute Stroke Online is in the content delivery and overall course objectives. Stroke Hospital-Based Care Online uses case-based patient scenarios, while Acute Stroke Online uses an information-based approach with static materials. Both courses differ from Stroke Prehospital Care Online in the intended target audience. Stroke Hospital-Based Care Online and Acute Stroke Online are designed for in-hospital healthcare providers, while Stroke Prehospital Care Online is designed for EMS and other prehospital professionals.

Q: Does this course offer a certification or credential?
A: No. Completion of this course does not result in an AHA course completion card. However, a certificate of completion is available for the student to print at the end of the course. Students may also apply for continuing education credits upon completion.
